At the top of Nob Hill, Grace Cathedral holds one of San Francisco's grandest entrances, and this photograph meets it head-on at the moment the light turns. As dusk settles over the pale facade, the arches around the doors begin to glow a deep, warm orange, and the gilded bronze panels at the center shine like a lantern.

Those doors are cast from Lorenzo Ghiberti's famed Gates of Paradise in Florence, the Renaissance masterpiece Michelangelo said was worthy of heaven. Above them, a pointed Gothic arch rises into a sharp gable, and higher still, an intricate rose window blooms in carved tracery. Built over nearly four decades and consecrated in 1964, the cathedral was cast in reinforced concrete to withstand the earthquakes that destroyed its predecessor in 1906, yet it carries every ounce of medieval European grandeur.

The perfectly centered, square composition turns the facade into a study in symmetry. Pinnacles, railings, and side portals mirror each other from edge to edge, giving the print a calm, almost sacred order. On the wall, it makes a striking focal point for an entryway, a library, or anywhere that calls for warmth and gravity.

Only 12 prints will ever be made at this size. Each is printed locally in San Francisco on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, a 100% cotton, museum-grade paper whose soft matte surface captures the texture of the stonework and the glow of the gilded doors.
